NASA Picture of The Day
December 2007

Monument Valley, USA
This picture was taken in 2007 and is Monument Valley, USA at night. the large star on the left side of the picture is the planet Mars. Right of Mars you can see the constellation of Orion. The reddish star near the center of the picture is Betelgeuse. The belt of Orion and the Orion Nebula are further right. This picture is so cool because you can see Mars from Earth and Orion's Belt is so big and close.

  2. This picture is awesome. I think it's cool how in the desert, without the light pollution from the skyscrapers and flashing signs we have here in NYC, there are so many bright and colorful objects that we can observe in the night sky.

  3. I can see that long exposure photography probably used to great effect to capture this image. That along with the fact that there is very little light pollution in in isolated areas like Monument Valley makes this a really great picture.
