Grand Spiral Galaxy NGC 1232

This is a picture of the fascinating Grand Spiral Galaxy NGC 1232, which was taken by one of the new 8.2-meter VLT, or Very Large Telescopes, on January 7, 2012. This galaxy includes various stars and dark dust, which are inside a gravitational spiral around the center. Galaxies are mysterious because they contain both visible and invisible features. Furthermore, the invisible areas include huge amounts of unknown forms and materials. This picture made me wonder both how galaxies are created, and how a picture this shocking could be taken. I choose this picture because of the remarkable colors, especially the blue spiral, and the fascinating mysteries concealed inside this galaxy.
