This is an image of the barred spiral milky way. I chose this picture because as the spirals instantly grabbed my attention I found it amazing how this galaxy looked like with all the spirals to it. A recent survey of stars is convincing astronomers that our Milky Way Galaxy is not just an ordinary spiral galaxy anymore. The structure of the Milky Way is difficult to discern, by looking out from within the Galaxy's disk. This galaxy is remarkable by a huge central bar some 27,000 light-years long.
However new results, demonstrate that the Milky Way's large bar would make about a 45 degree angle with a line joining the sun and the Galaxy's center.

  1. I also think this is a very interesting photo and I can see why you chose it. I think it is amazing how scientists are discovering new things everyday and we keep learning new things about our surroundings.
