This is a picture of the Dust and the Helix Nebula taken on December 31, 2009. This photograph was taken from the Spitzer Space Telescope and shows in fared radiation from the Nebula Helix and the dust that makes the cosmic eye appear to have a red color. Models of the Nebula Helix show that this "glow" comes from the debris and dust that surrounds it, as shown above. Aside from the stunning colors, I chose this photo because I was interested in knowing what creates the way in which we see certain spacial elements and I was very fascinated that this stunning red color and glow comes from something as simple as dust.

  1. I think this is a very beautiful picture and so interesting how it formed. I also agree with you that it is so cool how it is just radiation and dust that was able to form the coloring and make it look this way.

  2. I also think it's cool how this awesome picture with great colors and lights was just created with dust and radiation. It looks more like a work of art, but I guess things like this are everywhere in the universe.

  3. Love this photo as it is a reflection of life in action with all its beauty and roundness: the cell with its central round nucleus, whether skin, bone or blood cell, all are round; the universe with its surrounding round planets including sun, moon and earth. you might enjoy looking at the Hubel microscope you tube trip to outer space in which the earth appears to be a round piece of dust. The message is to appreciate and value all life, including dust, which clearly has a beauty of its own.
