U.N. Panel Issues Its Starkest Warning Yet on Global Warming
A U.N. panel has recently reevaluated global warming and issued a stark warning for the future.  The panelists have come to the conclusion that climate change could reverse generations of progress and result in hunger, poverty, flooding and mass extinction of some plants and animals. Even though countries all around the world have promised to deal with global warming, they continue to use huge amounts of fossil fuels. The emissions from these fossil fuels worsen the global warming situation. Currently, there is no serious policy in place to limit the use of fossil fuels and other harmful resources. Utilities and oil companies continue to rely on coal powered fire plants and refineries.  U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, a panelist on the new global warming study said, There is no ambiguity in their message. Leaders must act. Time is not on our side.” However, leaders are showing no signs of dealing with the global warming problem. In fact, no national leaders are willing to discuss allocating the trillion-tons of emissions. Myles R. Allen, a global warming specialist said, “If they choose not to talk about the carbon budget, they’re choosing not to address the problem of climate change.” Global warming is not a distant threat any more. It is something that is affecting everyone here and now. Floods and food shortages are becoming more and more common. The U.N. says the only way to truly solve the problem is to set emission limits on all industrial companies. Global warming is no longer something that can be put off.  It is something the human race has to deal with now.
One of the main points of the article U.N. Panel Issues Its Starkest Warning Yet on Global Warming is that failure to reduce global warning could have dire consequences. Global warming is no longer something that can be put off. The effects of global warming are already beginning to set in. Studies have shown that global warming has lead to multiple food shortages. In addition global warming has contributed to flooding in major areas. In fact, if the world continues on its current path soon it will become to hot for people to work or play outside during the hottest times of the year. The article also discusses how global leaders impact global warming. The article portrays global leaders in a very negative light because they do not enforce a limit on carbon emissions or the use of fossil fuels. This is because they are too concerned with the money being brought in by energy companies. However, if global leaders don’t handle the situation, the world will continue on this dangerous path.
The article U.N. Panel Issues Its Starkest Warning Yet on Global Warming was a very interesting, compelling, and informative piece on global warming. Today there is a lot of propaganda surrounding global warming. However, in this article a group of scientists addressed global warming and its potential consequences. The article is without a doubt a credible source because of the high credentials belonging to the U.N. and the authors. In addition, it covers many different aspects of global warming. For example, the article covers the side effects of global warming, what’s causing it, and how global leaders are dealing with the situation. It is fairly unbiased and is based off fact and fact alone. Overall.  it is a very informative article that show cases the severity and reality of global warming.
